The third DigNA webinar, “Reading DNA: Sequencing technologies,” took place on 8 October 2025 and attracted over 30 attendees. The event featured the two speakers Laurent Farinelli and Doron Lipson, who each presented for 20 minutes. A 15-minute Q&A session followed afterwards.
Laurent Farinelli talked about his contribution to illumina sequencing technology and the history of tech development. He is a NGS pioneer and CEO of Genesupport SA (formerly Fasteris SA), the first company to acquire a NGS illumina system for providing sequencing services. They developed a broad range of applications with hundreds of scientific publications and expanded in the medical field by offering genetics counselling and analyses in areas such as fertility, prenatal or oncology with laboratories in five Swiss cities.
Doron Lipson discussed non-illumina sequencing platforms and applications. He is a tech/data/strategy advisor, who actively consults on genomic data and technology and serves on the scientific advisory board of several biotech startups. As Ex-CSO at Ultima Genomics, he led scientific collaborations and application development for the first $100 genome sequencing platform.
