Girls’ Day and Boys' Day 2024 at Leibniz University Hannover

On April 25, 2024, Leibniz University Hannover, a partner of PEARL-DNA, opened its doors for Girls’ Day and Boys’ Day. During this annual event, children from the age of 11 to 15 had the opportunity to explore professions in the fields of technology, IT and natural sciences.

At the event, partners from Leibniz University Hannover set up a booth where children could learn about DNA as a potential option for data storage. The concept of DNA-based data storage was also explained in a kid-friendly flyer, specifically created for this event by the PEARL-DNA team.

The event received positive feedback with the children showing keen interest in the activities. The highlight of the presentation was the demonstration of a capsule for DNA preservation alongside a 4 TB hard drive (see the photo below). Despite its compact size, the capsule, developed by Imagene, has the capacity to store vast amounts of data — approximately equivalent to one million of these hard drives. This visual representation had a great impression on the visitors.

PEARL-DNA partners are dedicated to participating in engaging events like Girls’ Day and Boys’ Day to inspire a young audience to pursue careers in science.
